Piedmont Education Speaker Series with Rosalind Wiseman
How do we make an inclusive community where everyone feels a sense of belonging? How can we have honest conversations about discrimination and bigotry that brings us closer as a community?
Rosalind Wiseman, the founder of Cultures of Dignity, returns to the Speaker Series (via Zoom) to discuss How to Be an Ally. Wiseman is best known for her bestselling book Queen Bees and Wannabes, the basis for Broadway’s Mean Girls, but is also a contributor and curriculum creator for the Anti-Defamation League and the author of the Owning Up Curriculum, a comprehensive social justice program for grades 4-12 which is in widespread use across the world.
In this online event, Wiseman will discuss:
- How to have hard conversations about race and privilege with your children .
- How to support anti-racist work when you can’t relate to people of color’s experience or you have little education on having these conversations.
- Knowing the difference between a curious question and a question that reinforces bias and discrimination.
- Increasing educators and parents’ skills to teach their children to contribute to a culture of dignity in the school.
